About this Event

Carriers of Light and Labor installation, Paterson City Hall, 155 Market Street, Paterson, NJ 07505

Join Monument Artist Michelle Angela Ortiz and the NJMML team for a textile-painting workshop, where participants will have the chance to design and create their own fabric segments, to be added to the Carriers of Light and Labor installation.

Workshop participants will learn about the different textile-making traditions that immigrants and migrants brought with them to Paterson and other cities in northern New Jersey, and how the textile industries that defined the region depended on immigrant labor for their growth. Participants will have a chance to design fabric segments that reference personal and family histories of migration, which they wish to see shared as part of Ortiz’s commemorative focus.

Participants are welcome to drop in anytime between 1:30 and 6:30PM.

Paid parking is available at 125 Van Houten Street Garage located a short walk away. Other nearby options include the Center City Parking Garage (1 Ward St) and the Broadway Parking Garage (125 Broadway).
