My piece reflects this tension: figures bearing the landscapes of their homelands, moving toward the city, carrying the imprint of labor on their bodies.

Community dialogues made it clear that the history of labor and migration in New Jersey is inseparable from exploitation. Workers have carried industries on their backs while too often denied recognition and rights. I was moved by the honesty of the stories shared, which revealed not only hardship but also strength. My piece reflects this tension: figures bearing the landscapes of their homelands, moving toward the city, carrying the imprint of labor on their bodies. It asks us to see the human cost of prosperity and to honor those who built this place and continue to demand justice.
Location: NJT train overpass on Townsend St in New Brunswick.
